The Cincinnati Bearcats: Defying the Odds

State - Ohio

Stadium - Nippert Stadiun

Stadium Capacity - 40,000

Conference - AAC

Current Record - 11-0

Head Coach - Luke Fickell

Starting QB - Desmond Ridder

If there was a team every single fan is rooting for this year, it is Cincinnati, and it isn't even close. But why have the Bearcats became the darling of the college world?

Simple. They are defying the odds.

Cincinnati are a member of the AAC, a Group of 5 Conference and because of that, they, and all the teams around them are ignored by the College Football Ranking Committee. This year though, the Bearcats have flipped that on their head.

Cinci have not just gone undefeated this year. No, that isn't what has turned heads, it is the wins along the way that have made us all sit up. Going to Notre Dame and coming out on top, dismantling SMU and UCF, they look a class apart in their Conference and have been respected by being put as Number 4 on the College Football Playoff Rankings, meaning, if the season ended today, they would be in the Playoffs. That is UNHEARD of, no group of 5 team has ever been this close to the Playoffs, and if they can make it, knocking a team like Michigan or Ohio St out of the playoffs in the process, well, the whole College world may go mad.

Head Coach - Luke Fickell

Luke Fickell is the current Head Coach for Cincinnati and has been for the past 5yrs and, before then, was the Co-Defensive Coordinator for Ohio State University.

As a Head Coach, Fickell has earnt praise from everywhere, it is not hard to see why. In his first year, he led Cincinnati to a lowly 4-8 Record, but that quickly changed. In 2018 and 2019, he led the Bearcats to two 11 win seasons and in 2020 lost only one game. Cinci look to continue to build on that this season and currently sit 11-0 as the season begins to hit its ending.

Can Cincinnati get into the playoffs?

Can Cincinnati be the first Group of 5 Team to make it to that hallowed ground?

I hope so, the college world hopes so and you should hope so.
